Meet Beatrice

Beatrice’s story is one of unwavering resilience and deep faith in the midst of unimaginable hardship.

On February 3rd, 2021, her home was demolished—with only three hours’ notice. The house, built lovingly by her late husband, had been a simple but cherished refuge where she raised her children. I still remember visiting her in Kenya: the tidy home, the small garden she tended with care, and the little room her son once lived in. It was humble, but it was hers.

Her home was one of hundreds demolished by the railway company to make way for a new construction project. Although she had always known the risk of living near the railway line, it was the only place she and her family could afford. When the eviction came, she barely had time to gather a few belongings.

Today, she sits by the fire with nothing but the saved windows and tin sheets from her destroyed mud hut—unsure of where to go or how to begin again.

Despite everything she has endured, Beatrice remains a woman of remarkable faith. She welcomed us into her home with warmth and generosity, offering what little she had. Her story is a powerful reminder of the strength and grace widows carry, even when facing life’s harshest challenges.
